One Saturday afternoon the Smith family invited Akio to a football game. The game was played between Fred's college and another college. Fred was a member of the team.
When they drove toward the stadium, they saw some boys and girls with signs in their hands. They stood along the street and were calling to the drivers.
"Do you know what they're doing?" asked Mike.
"No, I have no idea," answered Akio.
"They want us to park at their houses," Mike said. "They can make money that way. It's very hard to park near the stadium today."

"Where are we going to park?" Akio asked.
"We're going to park at Mr. Brown's house," Mike answered. "He's my father's friend and lives near the stadium."
"You're lucky," Akio said.
After they parked at Mr. Brown's, they walked to the stadium. At the entrance Mr. Smith bought two programs, and gave one to Akio. Akio opened it and said, "Oh, here's a picture of Fred! He looks great!"
"Yes, he certainly does," Mrs. Smith said. "I hope he'll do well."

Only a few minutes were left, and the game was still a tie. Then Fred's team got a touchdown. But, soon after that, the other team got two first downs and was on Fred's team's thirty-yard line.
All the people on Fred's side shouted, "Push 'em back! Push 'em back!" The other side shouted, "We want a touchdown! We want a touchdown!"
Then one of the players received a pass and ran toward the goal line. Fred tackled him before he crossed the goal line. Just then the game ended.

"We won!" Mike shouted. "Fred stopped him!"
Then Mrs. Smith said, "That's Fred, isn't it?" One player was lying on the ground. Two players helped him up and carried him off the field. The Smith family soon learned that Fred was in the nearest hospital. They went there at once. Fred smiled at them when he saw them. "My leg got hurt, but it isn't too bad," he said.
"We're happy to hear that," said Mrs. Smith.
"You did very well in the game, Fred," Mr. Smith said.
