One Saturday afternoon the Smith family went to see a baseball game between Fred's college and another. It was a warm day. The sun was shining brightly.
When they parked near the ball park, Mike shouted, "Look! Fred is sitting on the bench near the gate."
"Oh, yes," said Mrs. Smith. "The girl talking with him is Sally, I think." "Who's Sally?" asked Mr. Smith.
"She's Fred's new friend," said Mrs. Smith. "He showed me her picture when he was home last time."

Fred and Sally came walking toward the Smith family standing by the car.
"Hello, Fred!" said Mike.
"Hello, everyone!" said Fred. "It's a beautiful day, isn't it? Did you have a nice drive?"
"Oh, yes, but the roads were crowded," answered Mike.
"By the way, everyone, please meet my friend Sally," said Fred. He introduced Sally to his family. She was a pretty girl with brown hair.
"Let's go in," said Mike.
"We have three baskets to carry with us," said Mrs. Smith. "Mike, please carry that one. I'll carry these small ones."

Fred took Sally and his family to the seats behind his team.
"When I see a baseball game," said Mr. Smith, "I always think of my old high school days. I was a member of the baseball club when I was in high school."
"He was a good pitcher before he met a cheerleader from another school," said Mrs. Smith.
"What do you mean, Mother?" asked Mike.
"Well, he fell in love with the girl. So he didn't want to win the games played between his school and hers."
"I know the girl was you, Mother," said Jane, and everyone smiled.
"I think I always did my best," said Father. "But her school had a better pitcher."

"You're lucky, Fred, because Sally is at the same college," said Jane.
"Yes. I always play football well when she cheers for me."
The game took nearly two hours. Fred's team won.
After the game was over, the Smith family dropped in at Sally's house near the ball park. They met her parents and talked for a while. They enjoyed a cake made by Sally.
"You're a very good cook, Sally. Some day you'll be a good wife," said Mrs. Smith to Sally.
"Thank you," said Sally. "Does anyone want some more?"
"I don't want any more," said Nancy. "But I want to know how to make a good cake like this."
