Ask each student to think of some period that made a great impression him: a course of study, an impressive trip, some kind of experience (edifying or traumatic). Ask them to express the difference it made to them tin a sentence, or sentences, based on the formula: I had never (or always)... before. Give an example yourself, form your own life. Then ask students to write down their sentences to express the widest possible implication of their experiences. Students can share as a group or in pairs.
