The JET Online Counseling System (JETオンラインカウンセリングサービス) was established by CLAIR in Summer 2015.

Aim

For the well-being of JET participants, CLAIR has introduced a counseling service through an external organisation. By minimising stress in daily life, JET participants are able to focus on their work duties and further contribute to their local communities. JET participants are encouraged to use this service for advice on dealing with stress in the workplace or daily life.

Counseling Services

The JET Online Counseling Service offers two types of counseling services: Web Mail Counseling and Skype Counseling. Both services can be used in either English or Japanese.

Web Mail Counseling

This service can be used by accessing the official site and registering. An email account and computer/tablet are required. It can be used at any time or location.

Skype Counseling

This service provides counselling through Skype. If you have a Skype ID, you can receive counseling using video/audio.

How to Use

You will receive the password in paperwork from your CO. If you lose the password, please ask your supervisor.

Web Mail Counseling

  1. First, go to the following website: English Website Japanese Website
  2. Member registration will be required upon use. Follow the member registration instructions. You will receive a registration confirmation email once you have registered, so please access the address listed in the e-mail to complete registration.
  3. After completing registration and logging in, enter the ID and password to access the Counseling Room. Once you have filled in the required information, submit the details of your inquiry (up to 30 lines of text).
  4. After receiving an e-mail about your counselling (within 3 business days), login to view the status and write any further questions you may have from the same window.

Skype Counseling

  1. First, go to the following website: English Website Japanese Website
  2. Please enter the required information and up to 3 sessions you would like on the counselling sign-up form. A counselor will contact you later via e-mail with the counseling time, date and place of access. You can choose either a 20 or 40 minute session.
  3. Connected to Skype at the scheduled time. A counselor will be waiting to consult you.

Note: Please contact Fismec if you are no longer able to make your appointment. Appointments may be rescheduled. In cases of cancellation without any contact in advance, that cancellation will count as 1 consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question: Who can use this service?
Answer: This service is for current JET participants only. Non-JET family members or friends may not use this service.

Question: When can this service be used until?
Answer: As this service is for current JET participants, it can be used during their term of appointment.


Question: How much does it cost to use this service?
Answer: This service is free of charge.


Question: Who are the counselors?
Answer: Contracted counselors are certified mental health professionals.


Question: Can this service be used anonymously?
Answer: Registration does not require use of your real name, so it is possible to use this service anonymously. Moreover, strict confidentiality is exercised, and personal information will be not released to a third party.


Question: How long is the current password for?
Answer: The current password is valid until August 2016. After this period, in line with the term of appointment for the majority of JET participants, CLAIR shall change the password and notify contracting organizations accordingly in August each year.


Question: Do I need to let my contracting organization know that I am using this service?
Answer: You will need a copy of the leaflet containing the necessary password from your contracting organization, after which the service can be utilized without going through your contracting organization or your Host Prefecture/Designated City. Please make not of the password for possible future use.


Question: Will CLAIR or my contracting organization be informed of content of my consultation?
Answer: CLAIR receives regular updates on overall usage statistics, however, specific counseling content will not be reported to CLAIR, contracting organizations, or other parties.


Question: I am asked for my membership number upon client registration. Is it necessary?
Answer: Location information is required, however it will not be used to identify you. Providing accurate location information may also ensure that your counselor is able to understand your situation more accurately.


Question: I'm having trouble logging in. What should I do?
Answer: An email will be sent to the email address provided after client registration. Please access the link included in the email to complete email address confirmation before logging in.


Question: There are 2 components to this service, how should I go about using them?
Answer: Please start with Web Mail Counseling, after which Skype Counseling may be utilized if necessary. There is no set limit on the number of consultations per person. However, as this service is utilized by many JET participants, availability may differ depending on overall usage. Please try using Web Mail Counseling first.


Question: Can you guide me through the process step-by-step?
Answer: Complete client registration on the website. Proceed to log in and receive counseling via Web Mail Counseling. If one wishes to use Skype counseling, please follow the necessary procedures to make a reservation for a counselling session (see above or the leaflet).


Question: Is there a usage limit?
Answer: One Web Mail Counseling case can be up to 3 messages back and forth. It is possible to continue with the same consultation by starting a new case after that.There is not set limit on the number of consultations per person for Skype Counseling. However, as this service is utilized by many JET participants, availability may differ depending on overall usage. Please try using Web Mail Counseling first.


Question: How long does it take to hear back from a counselor?
Answer: For Web Mail Counseling, a response will be sent within 3-4 business days (may take longer depending on the nature of the consultation). For Skype Counseling, it is necessary to make the reservation at least 4 business days in advance.
