Worksheet Mardi Gras Worksheet
Answer Key Mardi Gras Answer sheet
Video Mardi Gras via History.com

Materials Needed

  • Copies of worksheet (one double-sided worksheet per student)
  • Computer
  • Screen (projector, TV, smart board, etc)
  • Appropriate cables to attach monitor screen to projector / TV screen
  • Speakers (if using screen without audio functions)

Directions

  1. Make sure equipment is set up ahead of time and each student has one worksheet.
  2. Go over the words with the students (listen & repeat).
  3. Explain about looking for the words. Words can be diagonal, vertical, horizontal, and backwards.
  4. Using the answer key, read aloud the paragraph of information. Make sure the students know the blank words are the vocabulary from above. Usually, two times is okay. Feel free to repeat as needed.
  5. Go over the questions for the video so students know what to look for. Emphasize they don't need to write a complete sentence and that shorter answers are okay for this section. Play video as many times as needed, then go over the answers with students.
  6. Read out instructions. Make sure students know to use their own opinion. Feel free to gives your own examples for the questions (i.e. I would like to go to a Mardi Gras parade because I love to watch people dancing. Also, it would be very colorful).

Notes

  • This worksheet can be easily adjusted if you don't have the equipment for the video section. Just remove the section or tailor the question so they ask about the fill-in-the-blank information.
  • The video has a CC function, but there's some trouble getting them to display during the video.
  • For the opinion questions, feel free to use your own model sentences or none at all. I've noticed it helps with some of my students.
