Asking JHS students to do Show and Tell with little preparation time may be too difficult (they simply won't choose an object), so it's good to ask them to pick an object at home. When they come to school, they can write about it, and then give a short speech.

Preparation

  1. Create a Mystery Box.
  2. Select a student.
  3. Have the student write a brief essays about an object they have brought from home, the essay describes how the student came to own the object.
  4. On the day of the presentation, have the student bring their object to school and place it in the Mystery Box.
  5. After the class, take a picture of the student with their object, paste it onto the essay and hang it up in the classroom.

Description

  1. The student stands in front of the class and says, "I have something in this box, what is it?".
  2. The other students can ask up to 10 questions about the object.
  3. The ALT should sit in the presenting student's desk and model good questions.
  4. Once 10 questions have been asked, the class is allowed to guess what the object is.
  5. Then the presenting student says, "That's right!" or "Sorry, but ... NO!"
  6. After that, the presenting student shows his/her object and reads his/her description essay.
