Signs - a video lesson

From Akita Wiki

Signs:

  1. Download this video I created for this lesson right from vimeo. If you want a different video format, you can download it through keepvid.com, savevid.com or a similar site.
  1. Download the following work sheets:
    Word list for easy version
    Word list for advanced version
Handouts for both advanced and easy versions

Now you're ready to go!

The lesson:

Begin the lesson by asking what kind of movies students like. Ask if anyone hates romantic movies. Tell the romantic movie haters that after today's lesson they will change their mind and come to LOVE romantic movies. Then...

  1. Go over the vocabulary.
  2. Get students into groups of three, four, or five and give each group the 16 signs. (For the advanced lesson get students to ask you what signs they don't understand (Stacey, Thought you'd never ask, etc..). Have them spread the signs out so that they can see all of them.
  3. Play the video and pause the video before the characters show the sign.
  4. Give students 20 seconds to guess which sign will be shown in the video. If they are correct, they get a point. I get each group to hold up the sign they think will be shown and read it to me.
  5. Lastly, after the video ask each group to tell you how many points they received. Also, ask the romantic movie haters if they changed their mind (99% chance that they did!!)

That's it. Enjoy!!
