Video Exchange

From Akita Wiki

This is an ongoing lesson or project for your classes. The basic idea is that you will create a video with your students to be exchanged with a friend of yours in a foreign country. The lessons will not be consecutive as it depends on when you receive a reply video. This is really useful and fun for classes who you don't see very often.

  1. Find several friends willing to do video exchanges
  2. Explain the general idea of the lesson to the class
  3. Present students with their choices of people and some information about them
  4. Let students vote to choose who they want to video chat with
  5. Have students make groups and then each group receives a topic (Ex: Family, Friends, Hobbies, Hometown, Pets, School, Etc...)
  6. Record students asking all their questions (Up to this point should only take 1 class)
  7. Send the video to your friend (good idea to provide a written transcript and also ask your friend to speak slowly and clearly)
  8. When you receive the reply video watch it in class and have students listen to the answers for their questions
  9. Have each group share what they learned with the class
  10. Make more questions for another video/reply to any questions your friend has asked

There are many different ways to do this activity. If you want it to be more researched based, then you could have students research a city and then ask questions to someone that lives there. You could also have a friend make a video asking about Japan and Akita and have your students make a reply answering questions and presenting information. So many possibilities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
