Nishime

Nishime Town (西目町; nishime machi) is a town located in Yurihonjo City, Akita, Japan.

History

• On 1^st April, 1889 the villages of Nishime, Deto, Numata and Amahagi all merged into Nishime village.
• On 1^st September, 1975 the village of Nishime gained town status.
• On 22^nd March, 2005 Nishime town merged with Honjo city, and the towns of Chokai, Higashi Yuri, Iwaki, Ouchi, Yashima and Yuri to form Yurihonjo city.

Festivals

• Flower Festival (桜・菜の花まつり). This festival runs from the end of April to the start of May.
• Beach opening (海開き). The beach in Nishime opens around the middle of July.
• Sunflower Festival (ひまわりまつり). This festival is at the end of July.
• Health Marathon (健康マラソン). This marathon takes place at the start of September.
• Apple Festival (りんごまつり). This festival runs from the start of September till the end of November.

Onsens

• Kashiwa Onsen (かしわ温泉). Located south-east of Nishime train station. Opening hours are 9:00 to 20:30. Tel: 0184-33-2259.
