My name is Wu Weimeng. I am fifteen years old. My parents came from China, but I was born and brought up in Singapore.
My family has just moved into one of the high-rise apartment buildings. Different languages are spoken by the people living in these buildings. Many of the speak Chinese and English, and others speak Malay and other languages. We speak different languages, but we are trying to learn how to get along with each other.

People usually say, "There is a park in the city." But here we say, "There is a city in the park." And so we call our city the "Garden City."
The streets were once very dirty. Our government discussed what to do about it.
Now we must pay a fine of 500 dollars if we throw things away on the streets. It is a "fine" city, isn't it?

Our government leaders say that the Japanese are hard workers. They want us to learn a lot from other countries. They often tell us to work harder.
The police box system was introduced from Japan in 1983. Young police officers now stand at the corners of busy streets.
I hope that our city will become one of the safest cities in the world.

Singapore is a good place for people interested in sports. It is hot here, and many people enjoy swimming all the year around.
Long ago cricket was brought to Singapore from England. It is very popular even among girls. I am a member of the girls' cricket team.
I'd like to go to college to study P.E. When I finish college, I hope to teach cricket.

I started to study Japanese at school last year. I am interested in reading Japanese, though I am not good at it yet.
A group of students came to our school from Japan last week. We enjoyed talking to each other. They gave is a demonstration of judo and taught is to do origami. We taught them some Chinese and Malay songs.
I have heard that Japan is very beautiful. I'd like to go there some day.
