World countries 5 lesson series

From Akita Wiki

The aim of this lesson was to develop the students ability in research, presentation and practice their use of English. I set it up as a competition, so that the students evaluate each other (not being able to choose their own group)and then the best in the class got theirs hung outside for others to see.

In retrospect, the students should have a lesson before hand that will give them pointers on presentation skill.

Points to note: As with a lot of activities, about half the class are keen and half not so much: But, it gives those who want to learn a challenge. I think a lot of that "switch off" could be avoided with the promotion of this lesson. Also, be sure to make sure the school computers are in good order beforehand.

Over 5 lessons, in groups, students create information posters about many different countries. (draw lessons outline on the board) 1st lesson: Demonstration (I made a poster on morocco) + in groups, chose a country 2nd lesson: research in the library or on the internet 3rd lesson: research in the library or on the internet 4th lesson: design the poster (in English) and practice: Homework, continue the designing. 5th lesson: Give a 7 minute presentation and evaluation (on poster and presentation)

Lastly, explain the evaluation: the poster, the presentation, the prize!

Throughout this time, it is advisable that students visit a library, browse the internet or visit a travel shop for information/pictures etc. Pictures better if they are colour

This is an opportunity for students to put their English ability to good use and have fun with it! The more they put into this, the more they can get out of it. The best poster shall be put on display for the school to see!!!

I was only able to do this lesson once last year, so I have left some notes on improvements. That said, I still think it went well and definitely aim to do this again.
