Alphabet Race Game

Preparation

materials: letter cards (upper or lower case) objective: reinforce relationship between written letters and phonetic sounds.

Description

1. Split the class into 2 groups.
2. Have each group form a line, one group with the JTE, and one group with the ALT.
3. For the first rotation through the alphabet, the students are shown the alphabet cards one by one, and must make the appropriate sound in order to pass. The student may ask the rest of their group for help.
4. After the clearing the whole alphabet once, the letter cards are taken away and the students must recite the sounds from memory.

Note

This activity can be done using 2 methods: either timed (how many passes can the groups complete in 2 minutes,) or with set limits (first group to get through the alphabet twice wins.)
