Connection
Assign a color to each group. (Red team, blue team etc.) Give each team a pile of blank square pieces of paper that are the same color as their team color. Next, each group thinks of how to finish one of the sentences in the grid. Once they have created an ending for the sentence they write it down on one of their pieces of paper and bring it to the teacher. If correct, the teacher will post the answer onto the grid. Groups must try to connect as many squares as they can. [Squares are considered connected if they are touching either because they are next to each other or touching corner to corner. ] You will need to either draw the above grid on the board or print a giant version that will be visible by all of your students. You should have a main copy at the front of the class that you will post answers to and also give a copy to each student for easy viewing. Note: Sentences must make sense. Also, you cannot use the same ending more than once. For example, “I am sleepy” cannot be used for more than one square. Students must come up with unique endings. This is a great activity for isolating grammar points.
Enjoy!!!
