Mr. Bean Christmas
I found the students loved this lesson, as a light humorous finish to the year.
I first took off of you-tube the Mr. Bean x-mas special. it's in three ten minutes parts and is a little long. so I combined them with movie maker and took out some stories to reduce it to about 15 mins. I then made sentences about what is happening, highlighting the difficult words, and then cut them up (making sure the story flows with some hints). the students have to piece the story back together. They can either piece the sentences together before watching the vid, and then follow the story (higher level students) or vice-versa (lower level). Either way works.
This activity is fine by itself, but since Mr. Bean is from England... At the start of the lesson I explained (with the help of a slideshow) How we celebrate Christmas in England. This also followed the same structure/process as Mr. Beans x-mas. So it helped the students to piece the story together as well as understand some of the humour around why he does certain things (particularly the cultural meaning of certain things - like mistletoe).
The students loved this, as his silly humour is in a way "Bery Bery Japanese"
I'd have linked the video from you-tube but I'm not sure if it will breach any copyrights etc. But if you want a copy, just ask and I can send it ya.
