Obama
Obama
In some ways, Obama becoming President of America has been a very good thing for English class (me being from America). He is someone most of my students have heard of and someone they seem interested in learning more about. That said, I made a simple biography of Obama, trying my best to use only junior high school grammar. I also included a little Japanese for really difficult vocabulary. Then passed it out to students and let them read through it in groups for about 25 minutes, depending on the students’ level. Afterwards, there is a jeopardy-like game based solely on the worksheet. I have found that because this is new material to everyone, it puts most of the students on an even playing field. Usually during the 25 minutes I give them to review the information, the higher-level students help out the lower-level ones so everyone can participate. You can do this activity about anybody. It takes a little effort, but it goes a long way.
