Show and tell 5 lesson series
This lesson works if you have the class once every week.
I downloaded a vid clip of some German ( International School St.Pölten) elementary school kids give a show and tell in English. I typed out the script of the show and tell and first got them to read this and watch the mini clip. I think it gave the students some inspiration in that these Germans are so much younger but speaking better. So I said afterwards, "ok so now you're all going to do something like that, and if they can do it, so can you" - which I dare say shocked a few of them!
I then did a show and tell meself, also as a more clearer example of what they should do. I also went over some of the pitfalls and ways to improve public speaking. Then we looked through the step by step plan and got them to think bout what they can write/present. Be sure to emphasise that they can't just choose somethnig silly like their pencil. The students work though this over the next 3 lessons. In the fourth lesson I went over in more detail the skills needed when presenting. The last lesson is a presentation test of this in front of the class, which with my school, contributed to 10 percent of their grades.

Note: I uploaded the speech plan example and how to give a speech under the wrong headings, but it's all there!
Lastly, depending on the level of your students (mine were kogyou) and whether or not they have access to sufficient numbers of dictionaries, it might be good to include a vocabulary sheet to help.
Anyway, look at the plans etc and any feedback is welcome, and as always, at your service
