Take Me Home, Country Roads

From Akita Wiki

Words & Music by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert and John Denver

Lyrics

Almost heaven, West Virginia,
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees,
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze

*Country Roads, take me home
to the place I belong,
West Virginia, mountain momma.
Take me home, country roads.

All my memories gathered 'round her.
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky.
Misty taste of moonshine,
Teardrops in my eye.

*Repeat

I hear her voice, in the mornin' hour she calls me.
The radio reminds me of my home far away.
And drivin' down the road I get a feelin'
that I should have been home yesterday, yesterday.

*Repeat

Take me home, country roads.
Take me home, country roads.

Translation

Akita Version

In 2014, ALT Russell Kabir wrote an "Akita Version" of the classic song to be used in Akita prefecture's English camp. The song replaced geographical references to West Virginia with references to Japan and particularly Akita, such as replacing "Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River" with "Dewa Mountains, Omono River." Lyrics such as, "There's komachi painted on the sky" were added to give more local flavor to the song, and give children familiar words to identify within the song. The song was a hit at English camp.
