The Flying Twins!
Flying Twins Passive Voice Lesson:
Preparation: First, cut up the comic so that there are 16 parts. Each part should match one of the 16 sentences. Next, cut up the sentences as well. Put all of these into envelopes.
The lesson: At the beginning of class do a short review of the passive. Next, hand out the vocabulary sheet and go over the words as a class. Next, divide the class into groups of 3 or 4 and give each group an envelope. Tell students to take out only the silent comic pictures. Read the story and have students put the comic in order. Then, have the students take out the sentences and match them with the pictures. Lastly, you can do a passive voice quiz. Simply, ask the groups to look for sentences that contain the passive voice. When a group finds one they can raise their hand and tell the whole class. Give one point for every passive voice sentence they find.
NOTE: If time allows, you can have a passive voice challenge. Simply ask questions and have students answer them using the passive. For example: Q."Who invented the telephone?" A. "The telephone was invented by Bell".
