Valentines cards craft and poem lesson
This is a lesson for low level (as in, more akin to third year junior high)students, best with class sizes of about 20.
Note: Be sure to have enough red and white card/paper for each student (one of each - I bought this from the daiso, A5); also, enough glue and scissors, but your schools should have these supplies.
One of the beauty's about teaching low level, is there is less stress on passing exams, and thus more opportunity to broaden the uses of English. Basically, I explain Valentines culture in England, (onus on the man, making "roses are red" poems and leaving a "hint" in the card). Students understand, but will struggle to make a poem, however, for the one or two students who can do this, it gives them a bit of respect! AND, you will find some surprises! This part of the lesson, I have mixed to others as a warm up.
Anyways, before doing this class, make sure you practice making the cards! There are plenty of you-tube vids that can aid you. I first demonstrate how to, and have the kids watch and read the instruction - emphasisng the new words with action, to help understanding. Then the students have a go!
Pretty straight forward, and makes a change to the textbook.
Happy Valentines!
