Preparation

Make 4 copies of a set of activity pictures. If you have a class of 40 students you’ll need to make 4 sets of 10 different activities, which results in 2 sets of 10 pairs.

Directions

Have the students arrange the desks into two teams facing each other, with a path down the middle. The teacher tapes an activity to each student’s back. This is so the person behind them can see their card and not the other team. The teams Janken. Starting at one end of the team the student asks the other team a question, ‘Is Kenta playing tennis?’ As Kenta can’t see his card, the person behind him must reply. If the question is correct he answers, ‘Yes, he is. Kenta is playing tennis.’ Or “No, he isn’t, he’s ____.” Then move to the other team, who asks a question. During play the team members should keep track of who has what activity without using note unless needed. Anytime they think they know a pair, they can raise their hand and name them. If correct, those two students stand up and the team receives a point. If not, the other team gets the point and an extra turn. If things are dragging, enforce a time limit. Play ends when all the pairs have been found.
