Computers and phones
From Akita Wiki
Computers and phones are two things that many JETs find invaluable for daily life. Computers help ALTs through those long summer days without classes or anything resembling responsibility. They'll also help you when your JTE comes up to you five minutes before class starts and asks what kind of handout you can make. Cell phones keep you connected with your friends and coworkers. Within a couple weeks of getting your first Japanese cell phone (携帯; ケイタイ; keitai), you'll be typing out long text messages with the dexterity of a 14-year-old schoolgirl. "Hello Kitty" straps optional.
