Demonstrative pronoun

Create character cards, 3 for each student. Each card has a picture of a famous person or character with a name on the back. The correct cards have the names at the bottom. The incorrect cards have the names at the top with the correct name in parentheses at the bottom. Give each student 2 correct and 1 incorrect card. Students make pairs. One student says, “This is ___.” for each card. The other student points to the card that he thinks is the lie and says, “Liar, Liar! That’s (correct name). The first student gives the correct answer and they find new partners.

Past interrogative

Are you lying?

Make sure the students understand what a lie is. Have a dialogue with the JTE and ask the students if they think it is true or not. It is a good idea to actually tell a lie so students can grasp the game quicker. Have the students, in pairs, create a short dialogue (2 sentences), and it can be true or false. Using worksheet B11 might help. Put the students into groups and start the game. Have a pair come up and give their dialogue. Each group that correctly guesses if the dialogue is true or false, gets a point. “When did you____?” “Last ____.” If students are unsure of what to write about, have them pick a topic picture out of a bag.

Past perfect

Make 2 teams and out the activity. Students write their answers to the questions individually. In their teams, students think of one false but believable answer for each question. This false answer replaces one of the real answers. Team A asks the first question to team B. Each student in team B gives an answer. Team A tries to guess which student is lying! If they are correct they get one point. If they are incorrect team B gets a point. Now it’s team B’s turn to ask the first question to team A. Repeat with each question. Questions: 1) Have you ever stolen anything? If yes, give details. 2) Have you ever climbed a mountain? If yes, give details. 3) Have you ever eaten frogs’ legs? If yes, give details. 4) Have you ever met the leader of your country? If yes, give details. 5) Have you ever tried bungee jumping? If yes, give details.
