Paris is called the City of Lights. Many beautiful buildings are lighted at night. The streets are very bright. When you drive in Paris, you must not turn on your headlights even after dark.
Paris is a city which is full of life all day and all night. But this is not the only reason for its nickname. For many hundreds of years Paris has been the center of study, art, and music in France and also in all Europe. For this reason also, it is called the City of Lights.
Many people in Paris live in apartments. Many of the buildings they live in are five or six stories high, and each building has a small elevator which is just like a big bird cage.
For breakfast they have hot milk mixed with coffee, and some bread with butter and jam.
In the morning we see women who are coming back from shopping. They are carrying long loaves of bread under their arms.
Many offices and stores close for two hours in the middle of the day. Workers go home for their lunch. There are also many people who enjoy eating in restaurants. Paris has a lot of restaurants that serve very good fish and meat dishes.
The Seine is a big river that runs through the city. People like to walk along the river. On an island in the Seine there is a big church called Notre Dam. This is a very famous place everyone wants to visit.
Among other famous places in Paris are the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. The Eiffel Tower is more than one thousand feet high, and can be seen from many parts of the city. There is an elevator that carries you up the tower.
The Louvre is the biggest and the most famous art museum in the world. It was a palace the kings and queens once lived in. People from all over the world come to visit it. Every day it is visited by almost seven thousand people. You want to visit Paris some day, don't you?
