Tic-Tac-Toe For Numbers
From Akita Wiki
Activity | |
---|---|
Students make pairs to compete in circling and listening. | |
Target level | ES 2 - 5 |
Rules
- Make pairs. One person is X, and the other is O.
- Give each pair one worksheet. The sheet has three boards on it (A, B, and C). Each board has a tic-tac-toe board in the middle and the same set of numbers on each side.
- The ALT says a number that's on the board.
- Students circle which number they think it is.
- The ALT writes the number on the board. If one student got it right and the other wrong, that student writes his letter (X or O) anywhere on the board. If it is a tie, janken, and the winner writes his letter.
- Repeat. Students keep playing even after the first tic-tac-toe and try to get more.
Notes
- Make different boards for different number ranges. Students have difficulty with 4, 14, and 40, for example, so if you are studying numbers in this range, include some of these triples.
Variations
- Before the ALT says a number, students ask a question. "How old are you? I'm 25."
- Use time instead of numbers. "What time is it? It's seven o'clock."
- Use simple phonics instead of numbers. In this case, the game can be used in 6th grade elementary school or 1st grade junior high school.
