Preparation
- Download this worksheet.
- Open 60 Second Quiz document and insert English target words into the left-hand column and Japanese translations into the right-hand column.
- Make a copy for all students.
Description
- Train your students so that they know that the quiz will start at the last chime of the bell.
- Students work in pairs.
- Before the bell, students trade papers.
- When the bell finishes chiming, one student reads the Japanese translation, and the second student has to say the English word from memory.
- The first student keeps track of how many words the second student says by checking the boxes provided on the worksheet.
- If the second student doesn't know a word, s/he can say "Please skip it", and move onto the next word.
- The goal is to see how many words you can say in 60 seconds.
- After 60 Seconds, the students switch roles.
- When most students can say more than 20 words in 60 seconds, it is time to switch to a new word set.
