Summer

• Akita International Sumo Tournament

• Takanosu Drum Festival

Fall

Advice: Fall is a beautiful season in Japan, the weather is clear and cool, insects of the biting variety have all died, and the leaves are beautiful.

• Good places to view the turning of the leaves:
  • Mount Moriyoshi. In Kitaakita
  • Shirakami Mountains.

Fall Events:

• Tazawako Camping. Room To Read Event.
• Halloween Dance Party. Room To Read Event.

Winter

Advice: Winter is cold and dark in Akita, but it is also wonderful. Winter is a tough time, but just remember to stay active and it will be a happy time. Winter also happens to be the time that we have to decide if we will stay in Akita or return to our home countries. Please keep Spring, Summer, and Fall in mind during this time.

• Takeuchi Festival. The battle using bamboo sticks in Misato.
• Kamakura Festival in Yokote
• Namahage Festival.

Spring

Advice: Spring in Japan is very nice. The weather is usually good up until the rainy season, and the cherry trees are beautiful when they blossom.

• Good Places to view the cherry blossoms:
  • Kakunodate, by the river.
  • Akita City, Senshu Park.
