Elementary Lesson Resources

Elementary School education in Japan is going through a change. There are new textbooks for Elementary school, and the approach for English education is shifting.
From 2020, the new curriculum has gone into effect. 5th & 6th graders now have 70 English classes a year, and 3rd & 4th graders have 35. This is roughly two classes a week for 5th & 6th grades and one class for 3rd & 4th. Previously, the only required English classes for Elementary schools were 5th & 6th grades, and any English lessons for students younger than this was up to each school's discretion.
From 2024, major revisions to the 5th & 6th grade textbooks have gone into effect. The revisions aim to better prepare the students for the revisions the Junior High textbooks that are under review. Significant changes include the songs and chants as well as the structure of the units. Additionally, the digital textbooks have been moved to an online platform.
