Japanese calligraphy

Japanese calligraphy (書道; shodō) is the art of writing Japanese with a brush (筆; fude) on traditional Japanese paper (半紙; hanshi). It is also called 習字 (shūji). When taught as a subject in schools, it is called 書写 (shosha).
