Aikawa High School was founded in 1955 as a private high school. Ownership/operation of the school transferred to Kitaakita City when Aikawa Town merged with Takanosu, Moriyoshi and Ani Towns to become Kitaakita City.
This school merged with Takanosu Agricultural High School, Takanosu High School and Yonaizawa High School in April 2011 to form Akita Hokuyō High School.
ALT History
When Aikawa High School was a private high school, it had an agreement with Aikawa Town whereby ALTs were dispatched from the municipal board of education, not the Akita Prefectural Board of Education. When Kitaakita City was formed, and Aikawa HS converted into a municipal high school, the Kitaakita City Board of Education continued its practice of dispatching ALTs to this school.
