This school opened its doors in 1884 in the Aso Hamlet of Nanakura Village (七座村). Nanakura Village merged with several other municipalities to become Takanosu Town on April 1st, 1955. On October 1st of the same year, the Aso Hamlet separated from Takanosu Town and was incorporated into Futatsui Town. Ownership of this school transferred to Futatsui Town at this time.

In 2005, Tenjin Elementary School and Taneume Elementary School merged into Futatsui Elementary School.
