Lesson goals: Learn how to say actions and the time.
Preparation: Picture cards (actions), digital materials, (reflection cards), ohajiki

  • Say hello.
  • Greet the whole class, and then greet a few students individually.
Let's Play 1 p. 22
  • Play the number game. Say the numbers 1-60 together. Check your pronunciation with the digital materials and repeat once more.
  • Say the numbers 1-60, one person at a time.
  • Do variations like staying silent or clapping on multiples of 3 etc.
  • Count from 1-60 with the kids. Check the pronunciation using the digital materials while looking at the numbers on p. 22. Repeat once more.
  • Get them to count to 60 by saying one number each.
  • When they get used to it, make it more interesting by adding rules like skipping or clapping on multiples of 3.

Guess the time
  • Guess what time the teacher is making with their arms.
  • Make a clock face using your arms and ask "What time is it?"
  • Start with simple times (12:00, 3:00 etc.) and when they get used to it, add in :30.

  • Listen to the times and draw them on the clocks.
  • Get them to listen to the times and draw the clocks on p. 22.
  • Check their answers by asking "What time is it?"

  • Learn how to say the actions.
  • Look at the teacher's gestures and say the action in English.
  • Teach the actions in English. Make sure they understand the action in Japanese before teaching the English.
  • Show the cards and ask what they are.

  • Place an ohajiki' on 5 pictures on p. 22. Listen to the audio or the teacher and take the ohajiki off when you hear the corresponding action. The person who takes all their ohajiki off first is the winner.
  • Play the audio or say actions randomly.

  • Chant while listening to the audio.

  • ナンバーゲームをする。1～60を全員で言う。音声教材で，言い方を確認し，再度全員で言う。
  • 1人ずつ1～60の数を言っていく。
  • 自分の数字が3の倍数の場合は，言わずに，手をたたくなどする。
  • 指導者も一緒に，1～60を言う。音声教材で，誌面p. 22の周りの数字を見ながら1～60の数の言い方を確認し，再度指導者も一緒に言う。
  • 1人ずつ順に1～60の数字を1つずつ言わせる。
  • 慣れてきたら，自分の数字が3の倍数であれば，手をたたくなどさせる。

〇「何時か当てよう。」
  • 指導者が両腕で示す時刻を答える。
  • 両腕を時計の針に見立てて時刻を示しWhat time is it? と尋ねる。
  • 時刻は，「1～12時」で表せるものにする。慣れてきたら，「30分」を入れる。

  • 時刻の音声を聞かせ誌，p. 22の時計に時刻を書き込ませる。
  • 時刻を尋ねるやり取りで答え合わせをする。

  • 動作の言い方を知る。
  • 指導者がするジェスチャーを見て，動作を 英語で言って当てる。
  • まず，生活の様子を動作で表わしながら，動作の言い方を紹介する。
  • 生活の様子を動作であらわし，それが何か尋ねる。

  • 誌面p. 22の動作の絵から5つ選び，おはじきを置く。音声教材(指導者)が言う動作の絵におはじきを置いていたら取る。早くおはじきがなくなったら勝ちとなる。
